WHERE I STAND ON THE ISSUES
Housing Affordability
Housing costs have risen dramatically. Locals and newcomers alike have great difficulty finding something they can afford, and we’ve been making real progress to address this issue. Last year saw a 250% increase in multifamily construction permits compared to the year before. This will increase housing stock and lower costs. I also sponsored code changes to protect vulnerable tenants from exploitative landlords, to make sure renters have a safe and warm place to live. We need to keep building on this momentum. I am committed to continuing to work to cut red tape and create incentives to get more housing built, increase housing supply, and improve affordability for all families.
Homelessness
As a former law enforcement officer, I've seen firsthand the challenges that come from people living on the streets. I’ve supported efforts to increase shelter space and outreach services while also taking steps to protect our public spaces and ensure accountability. We’ve secured funding for transitional housing to give homeless residents a path toward employment and stability. At the same time, many people experiencing homelessness are part of a vulnerable population facing barriers like mental health challenges or addiction, so we must also address the root causes by expanding behavioral health treatment and support services. I’m committed to continuing to work with the Assembly and the Mayor’s Administration to find solutions that work while always keeping cost-effectiveness in mind.
Public Safety
Our law enforcement officers have a tough job, and they deserve our support. I know firsthand the importance of having the right training, equipment, policies, and funding for a department. I’ve sponsored funding to provide better wages for our officers and I’m also proud to have co-sponsored an ordinance that prohibits public behavior like indecent exposure, physical harassment, and other threatening conduct so that families can reliably enjoy our public spaces without fear. I will continue to work with the police department to make sure they have the resources they need and that our communities get the level of service we need.
Fire Safety
We face unique threats in South Anchorage, Turnagain, and Girdwood. Wildland fire hazards and difficult access make a tough job even tougher for our firefighters. Having the right tools and adequate personnel positioned in South Anchorage and Girdwood to respond quickly is essential to keeping our communities safe. I’m proud to have sponsored funding for wildfire hazard and mitigation education. For 2026, I’m leading an effort to operationalize the AFD Wildland Division, to ensure this critical function does not go away.
Business
South Anchorage, Turnagain, and Girdwood all host some amazing businesses. We need to make sure they have the support and the regulatory environment they need to succeed and grow. Identifying new opportunities, encouraging responsible development, and fostering a business-friendly attitude are my priorities.
Infrastructure
The poor condition of many of our roads impacts both access to firefighting equipment and safe avenues of escape for residents. I will continue to work with the Limited Road Service Area Boards and others to prioritize projects and fight to get them funded. And I am proud to have sponsored the first two years of the Chugach Access Service Area Bond.
Recreation
Ready access to incredible trails and wilderness is why many of us have chosen to make this place our home. As your assembly member, I will strive to improve access and maintain our shared areas, while protecting our neighborhoods.
Education
It's no secret Anchorage's schools are struggling. Our students and our teachers have been challenged and endured incredibly difficult circumstances. They need our support and our advocacy. I’ve fought to protect ASD from efforts to harm our schools through changes in the funding formula and to help secure investment in our classrooms.
